“Extraordinary” PopJustice
“Cathartic pop for when you’re feeling abandoned” The FADER

“Poised to meet all expectations” MTV

An artist whose sound is described as understated, evocative, catchy and commanding, Best Fit Recordings are extremely proud to announce the signing of Swedish siren FAYE to their family of artists, a songstress whose perfect blend of electronica and pop leaves an indelible impression upon all who listen in.

The story behind Swedish vocalist Faye Hamlin is by no means a usual one. How many singers can say that they spent their adolescence touring the world with the likes of Destiny’s Child and Aaron Carter as one quarter of hugely successful, multi-million selling all-girl group Play? Not many. And even fewer have been able to go on to create music with as much integrity and stylistic prowess as that in which Faye is so naturally and brilliantly releasing today.

Alongside long time friends and musical partners, Swedish production powerhouse Montauk, FAYE, formerly known as Fanny, is set to unveil her latest single, the dynamic, compelling and addictive ‘Water Against The Rocks’ on 25 June. Blending FAYE’s pristine vocals and sumptuous harmonies with gleaming synths and a seamless electronic backdrop, ‘Water Against The Rocks’ is the stunning sonic representation of FAYE breaking away from her pop roots and embarking on a much deeper, more personal and highly adventurous musical journey.

“The most important thing is that I do it myself and no one is making decisions for me… I want to use my vocals in a different way, and it’s a wonderful feeling for me to be able to make my own sound. It’s important for me to do this my own way,” states the inspired songstress of her new musical venture with that same air of surety and conviction that flows throughout her latest offering.

‘Water Against The Rocks’ marks a true departure from FAYE’s pop roots, although there are irresistible hooks, soaring, euphoric vocals and solid, rousing beats and baselines aplenty. The most honest, pure and musically ambitious project from the singer so far, with this latest collection of tracks, FAYE is finally able to showcase her true, resplendent and unforgettable musical colours.

‘Water Against The Rocks’ is out now through Best Fit Recordings on digital & limited edition 7″.

Martha Wainwright announces new album ‘Come Home to Mama’, released October 15th on V2 Records

Martha Wainwright Announces New Album

‘Come Home to Mama’ Released October 15th via V2 Records

Produced by Yuka C Honda, and written by Martha Wainwright, Come Home To Mama (V2) is an emotional rollercoaster that dazzles throughout.

Recorded earlier this year in New York City, mostly at Sean Lennon’s home studio, ‘Come Home To Mama’ has the passionate angst of her 2005 debut coupled with the twisted pop of 2008’s ‘I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings Too’.

In the past, Martha worked with husband Brad Albetta but this time out chose Yuka C. Honda (Cibo Matto) to add a feminine touch. Her husband, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, provides the musical thread throughout this captivating disc.

Guest musicians include Thomas Bartlett, keyboards; Brad Albetta, bass and drummer Jim White.

“Making this record was a totally different experience,” Martha says. “Yuka’s approach was very open. Sometimes I would just demo the song, singing in the closet which served as the vocal booth, then she would build the track around that. In other instances we would jam with a few musicians and try to get a live take.

“This record is a culmination of my life experiences so far. Everything changed for me a couple years ago and this record is a representation of that and a return to the reason I started writing songs,” she adds. “I can’t wait to hit the road with my family and new band in tow.”

The Penelopes Announce The Flight Galactic Remix Download of ‘Sally In The Galaxy’

March 6th, 2012

Single - ‘Sally in The Galaxy’
Out Monday 9th April 2012
On Pour Le Monde Records

Download & Share ‘The Flight Galactic Remix’ Here: http://soundcloud.com/thepenelopes/sally-in-the-galaxy-the-flight/s-TzURM

“Influenced by everyone from Prefab Sprout to Felix Da Housecat to Devo,  The Penelopes make sparkly electropop, with elastic bass lines, lush keyboard sequences and funky guitars.” Umstrum
“French indie-electro at its best; charming keyboard bleeps, guttural Gallic murmurings and a fuzzy synth array make for delightful listening.” Owl By Night

Hailing from Paris, The Penelopes are dynamic duo Axel Basquiat and Vincent T. Now living in London’s trendy east, the pair are in the city that live and breathes ‘Gloomy Indie’, a genre the pair fell in love with when living in the industrial suburbs of north Paris. Influenced by British bands such as The Cocteau Twins and New Order you would expect their own music to follow in the same footsteps, but happily, the band contradict their influences by creating this multi-layered, sparkly indie-pop.

Despite being hailed as 2007’s Best Discovery at the French Qwartz Electronic Music Awards the band felt that they didn’t really belong in the electronic music scene. “We felt more like a rock band using electronic tools” says Axel. So they up and decided to relocate to London, where all their new tracks were born with the help of desk-man du jour Dan Grech-Marguerat. (The Vaccines, Scissor Sisters)

Along The Penelopes’ journey, fashion designer Agnés B caught wind of these duo’s triumphs and has since become their mentor, designer and friend, taking them across the world to play at fashion shows and introducing them to all the right people.

Sally in the Galaxy is the first official single, following intro track Now Now Now back in early December of last year, the C90s remix of which has been seeing some heavy dancefloor duty. Sally in the Galaxy is a hooky, electro, dance heavy song and the beats hammer through until it gets to the futuristic bridge. Despite their relocation to London The Penelopes still carry their French charm and appeal through into their music.   This tune is an up-tempo frenzy: Bastille by way of Shoreditch and the hooky chorus will have you singing along to the beat in no time.

Regardless of how you take it, The Penelopes will brighten up your day.

Featurecast Around The Block EP

March 5th, 2012

Released 26 March on Jalapéno Records

Download & Share Here: http://soundcloud.com/featurecast/featurecast-around-the-block/s-dsBX7

BAM !  POW ?!! and other comic book type exclamations meet the news that one of the baddest brothers on the breaks and bass scene has put pen to paper and signed to Jalapeno Records.

Excited is for kids right – We’re older than that surely ?
Seasoned business people. Music Professionals.

No goddammit we are EXCITED !!

Featurecast (Lee Mintram to his mum) has an album on the way with a serious seasoning of top vocalists including Greg Blackman (a mainstay of the album), high flying UK bluesman John Turrell, Hospital Records D&B vocalist of choice Pat Fulgoni, plus MC Alaska, C Reid and Pugz Atom dropping urban science whenever and wherever required.

Prior to signing to Jalapeno, Featurecast has released on a variety of happening labels like Bomb Strikes, Good Groove and Catskills as well as Funk Weapons in the US and the burgeoning Ghetto Funk label in the UK. One of his early productions was even snapped up by Apple to promote the IPOD – yep those ads with the silhouettes dancing round – that was our boy.

His DJ sets are the stuff of legend and he regularly tours North America and Australia where his brand of bass fuelled turntablism is in serious demand. Featurecast has crafted his own unique sound combining amazing pinpoint scratching whilst effortlessly cutting between Funk, Hip-Hop, Breaks, Dubstep and Drum & Bass. He’s dazzled the crowds of some of the biggest festivals and venues around the globe with Canada’s legendary Shambhala festival being the scene of one of his biggest triumphs.

Featurecast has shared productions duties on previous releases with legends of the bass scene like Krafty Kuts and house heavyweight James Zabiela (who credits Lee with teaching him to scratch) as well as remixing everyone from Aretha Franklin to Finley Quaye.

Basically his whole life has been building towards this album and now his time has come.

First out of the gates from the new material is  “Around The Block EP”.
A big beating, ghetto funkin’ bad ass slice of bass and breaks business.

Lead track Around The Block features MC Alaska who is fresh from a hot collaboration with The Freestylers. C. Reid provides the science on two more tracks while soul man Greg Blackman rounds the ep off in style, already picking up radio plaudits from Craig Charles on his 6 Music Funk show for this track.

Around the Block will be released on March 26 on 12” and digital download.
The Featurecast album is due Summer 2012.

Michael Announces Playboy Sessions On Defected Records

Parisian style meets LA glamour as Michael Canitrot and Playboy join forces

and mixed by one of France’s most desirable DJs

Since the 2000 launch of Dimitri from Paris’ seminal ‘Night at the Playboy Mansion,’ dance music has been connected to the Playboy brand.  Playboy Sessions Paris is the next step in that continuing expedition.

Step forward Michael Canitrot, one of the leading lights on the French house scene, to craft a two-disc mix that epitomises the glamour and sophistication associated with Playboy.

Canitrot has, over the last decade or so, become one of the most in-demand house DJs on the circuit, especially when it comes to high-profile events.  In 2010, his club night ‘So, Happy In Paris?’ celebrated its 10th anniversary with a party atop the Eiffel Tower and he has been the resident DJ of the Cannes Film Festival – one of the most prestigious dates in the film industry’s calendar – for the last decade.

“I’ve had some wonderful experiences mixing at the top of ‘Les Marches’” says Canitrot of his residency. “It’s an extraordinary place to be.  The world of film greatly influences my mixes and I love setting the musical tone there. Watching Quentin Tarantino dancing away while I played is something I’ll never forget!”

“My connection as a musical designer for the Cannes Film Festival also helped me to enter the fashion world,” he continues. “It is always interesting to work with brands and designers for events or fashion shows. Each designer’s needs are different and the musical research I have to do is always very enriching. I remember a musical theme we developed for a soundtrack on Christian Dior’s life, his tastes and his influences. It was an amazing project to work on.”

Now, Canitrot has drawn on all his experience to compile and mix Playboy Sessions Paris, a sophisticated, forward-thinking party soundtrack befitting of the Playboy lifestyle.

“I was a big fan of all the earlier compilations mixed by Dimitri From Paris and Bob Sinclar  so I decided to keep the original vibe of the project but also bring my own touch which is more clubby and electronic,” says Canitrot.  “The first CD is more of an eclectic and alternative mix, creating a really cool vibe to listen to during the day. The second CD is a pure DJ mix driving you from Paris to the Playboy Mansion party!”

The mix features tracks and remixes from cutting edge artists such as Crazy P, Supernova, Storm Queen, Aeroplane, The Shapeshifters and Soul Central, as well as cuts from Canitrot himself.
